Over the more recent years the tendency has been to move away from the interwoven fence panels, popular in the eighties and nineties, and more toward toward purpose built timber screening.

Reasons for this are multi-fold. Firstly, to stay competitive in the price market, manufacturers were forced to reduce the quality of their interwoven panels to such an extent that the first puff of wind would see the panels take off over the rooftops.** Secondly, with modern pressure treatment facilities, all fencing timbers should carry a twenty year guarantee against rotting. which was a serious problem in the past. Most importantly, a hand built fence looks much better.
