We are privileged to be able to stay in, and work from such a beautiful location as Elie. A native of the village, I love every aspect of it. It is really quiet on the streets in the winter months but comes to life in the summer time.
No longer any hotels or boarding houses, there used to be five huge hotels and countless private hotels. Only a few B & B’s left to choose from, Rockview is lovely, take a peek here.
Most of the bigger houses have been taken over as holiday homes bringing, especially in the summer months, much valued trade to what local shops are left. Because of the location and micro-climate, house prices are pretty crazy around here. Quite a few have made the six figure mark recently. This is all good news for myself and the local building trade who are kept busy with all the ongoing renovations and developments.
Come and Stay a While
Although there are a lack of hotels and B&Bs, holidaying in Elie is still a cinch. Sally Pattullo is the girl to speak to, she has run the very successful Elie Letting company for over 20 years and has over 100 properties available, some of which are the most desirable in the village. Her site is well worth a visit.

Elie harbour is a fabulous place, very popular with locals and tourists alike. Elie Harbour Trust do a remarkable job of maintaining and running the harbour, while the Sailing Club have a very active membership, attracting boats of all types and sailors from afar.
Angus Meldrum runs the very successful Elie Watersports centre which is hugely popular and provides safe seaboard activities for all the family.
Feeling hungry while at the harbour? Grab a pizza from the galley, just the job.
Making your way back to the village, you’ve just got to drop in on my good friends Richard & Jill Philip who own the famous Ship Inn. Jill’s fish and chips are the absolute business. The beer garden and barbecue, built by us in 1990 is a must in the summer months. Check out their web site for full menus. and accommodation availability in their ‘Rockview’ B & B. make a note of the dates for ‘cricket on the beach 2008’. fixtures in the new menu which is available at the Ship and yours to keep..

Ok so you need another drink… top of the hill drop in to see Alex Bowman and his staff at The Station Buffet. Three great big plasma screens feed you with all the football you would ever wish to see.
All channels available. Pool table, a 2,000 track juke box, quiz and karaoke nights, all day pub snacks and all round good crack make it a very special wee corner. I have to do a bit of name dropping here……. ‘Snow Patrol’ and ‘Editors’ were knockin’ about the pub at Hogmanay last year. Mates of Alex’s big Sis Edith. Didn’t sing much, but had a good time…fell about a lot.
Must make mention of the Station Buffet football team, newly formed this season and have already clinched the league title.
Alex owns a super self-catering flat next door to the Buffet, take a look here.

Other great places to eat are The Seafood Restaurant St Monans, The Cellar in Anstruther, The Inn at Lathones and, of course, The Gantry in Pittenweem.
GOLF
Elie Golf House Club is one of the finest links golf courses in Scotland. A challenging layout, but forgiving enough not to make you want to jump off the nearby Kincraig Cliffs.
Much better to take the family for an adventure round the cliffs via the famous Chain Walk.
